A large majority of India’s population has little or no access to educational opportunities. Realising that the spread of education in rural and semi urban areas is crucial to the development of the nation, the Sangha operates more than a 100 institutions in the country providing quality education to disadvantaged children.
Education is the backbone of the human being and the nation. Jharkhand is one of the backward states in India. And East Singhbhum district is also very backward in Jharkhand. This district has been declared as an aspirational district by Govt. of India.
Bharat Sevashram Sangha has been in the education field formally since last 70 years. It is imperative to be educated for the all round wellbeing of humanity. Besides academic learning, moral character development of a child is most important to be a good human being for the welfare of the self and the greater society at large. With this objective, Bharat Sevashram Sangha following the footsteps of Acharya Srimat Swami Pranavanandaji Maharaj creates such an environment and activities which enable students to build their lives by inculcating practically self-discipline, truthfulness, honesty, dutifulness, hardwork, fellow feeling, serving attitude etc. Physical wellbeing is the primary requirement of the students. As such we have proper playground for them with playing equipments and sports materials. Here at Barajuri Ashram, students live in very pristine ambience with a spiritual touch.
Since 1996, Barajuri Ashram of Bharat Sevashram Sangha has been running a “Boys School” in the name “Swami Pranavananda Vidyamandir” with residential facilities for 100 students of the local tribal communities. This school is upto class V. We have a two-storied building for them with a playground and other facilities.
At the request of the state administration under Jharkhand Education Project (JEP), we had admitted 250 girl students (PTGs/ST/OBC) within the age group between 9 and 18 years for the period 20-12-2002 to 20-09-2003. Another 250 girl students (PTGs/ST/OBC) were admitted for the period 15-12-2003 to 15-08-2004. They were provided boarding and lodging facilities for their basic literacy programme and overall upbringing with sports, cultural facilities etc. A total of 25 numbers of teaching staff and non-teaching staff managed the responsibilities during this period. It was very successful and the students at the end of their stay at Ashram were reluctant to go back to their home but had to leave with tearful eyes because the duration of each batch was stipulated. It was really a life changing turning point for them.
In 2005 on 25th September, our permanent Residential Girls School till class VIII was opened in a new building and inaugurated by Smt. Nidhi Khare, IAS, the then Labour Commissioner of Jharkhand. This school is running successfully with the financial assistance of Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), Govt of India and financial contribution from the devotees and well wishers of the Sangha. The overall development of Tribal girls is remarkable.
We want to upgrade the Residential Girls School till Senior Secondary level in a phased manner for which construction of the second floor of the existing building will be required. We need the financial contribution to convert this plan into reality. Girls’ education in this area is very poor and neglected. As such we want to focus for the overall development of the girl children.
We have another village school at Bhadua. Initially we used to run 15 village schools with 80-100 students’ capacity of each of the school. Due to paucity of funds, rest of the schools are non-functional and only a village school at Bhadua is operational.
